Senior Manager (m/f/x) Global Oncology RWE Operations


The position

The purpose of this role is to drive capabilities in Real-World Evidence (RWE) generation in the organization to accelerate the speed of RWE generation and support the implementation of RWE strategies in close alignment with key global and regional functions. The Senior Manager RWE Operations will work with Global HEOR asset leads on tactical planning and execution of evidence generations studies across the oncology portfolio towards a successful market access for Daiichi-Sankyo. He/She will work in the Global Oncology Value, Access, & Pricing (GOVAP) department for the Oncology Business Unit, in close collaboration with cross-functional teams. The Senior Manager RWE Operations reports directly into the RWE Operations & Analytics Lead and will also be responsible for advocating for HEOR and payer perspectives in cross-functional evidence generation activities with global and regional functions, including Global Medical Affairs and others, to feed into the Global Project Team (GPTs) and Global Brand Teams (GBT) for endorsement. The role will also contribute to the development of the RWE operation model for data acquisition, evidence generation, and information dissemination in close collaboration with other members of the Global HEOR team, including new processes and refinement of existing operating procedures, as well as building and retaining institutional memory.


Roles and responsibilities

The Senior Manager Global Oncology RWE Operations will have the responsibility and accountability for the following: 

  • Develop and maintain an institutional memory on decision-making processes & use of RWE for reimbursement and HTA submission in key global markets
  • Drive and facilitate evaluations and cataloguing of candidate RWD sources for project planning and data acquisition, and maintain current knowledge on the evolving use of RWE for market access and payer negotiations
  • Drive strategic evidence generation planning and execution of secondary real-world database studies, including RFP process, vendor selection, protocol and SAP preparation, internal and external dissemination
  • Effectively manage RWE project implementations, including managing outsourcing activities with external consultancies and contractors, ensuring delivery according to key milestones, budget and to agreed and expected quality
  • Work collaboratively and provide HEOR and payer perspectives in cross-functional RWE projects, proactively identifying opportunities for innovative methods of filling knowledge gaps
  • Collaborate closely and keep updated with members from other departments such as Regional Market Access, Global Medical Affairs, Global Marketing, R&D, and Digital Intelligence to maintain communication on key global and regional RWE strategies and activities
  • Identify priority areas and facilitate RWE training, education, and information dissemination for internal stakeholders


Personal skills and professional experience

  • Doctorate or Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (eg. health economics, public health, epidemiology, health informatics) 
  • Minimum of 3+ years’ experience in HEOR/Market access roles developing health economic models or conducting evidence generation projects in the healthcare industry (pharma, consulting, contract research organization),
  • Strong project management experience with a proven track record of successful execution of HEOR and RWE studies with internal cross-functional and external stakeholders in major international markets (US, Europe)
  • Knowledge and experience of Oncology therapeutic areas is strongly preferred
  • Understanding of reimbursement requirements and HTA submission process for key international markets is strongly preferred
  • Demonstrates understanding and knowledge of key drug development processes, plans, studies, and strategies including clinical, regulatory, scientific, operational, and commercial aspects of drug development. Uses knowledge to the organization’s advantage; generates new ideas and enables the organization to improve business performance.
  • Demonstrates understanding and knowledge of HEOR methods and RWD, the issues and challenges of applying these alongside clinical studies in drug development, and delivers novel informatics solutions
  • Expertise in various RWD sources (EMR/EHR, claims, disease registries, etc.) and clinical data standards, including medical terminologies and coding lists
  • Understanding of RWD landscape across various geographies and be familiar with market-specific data quality and coverage considerations 
  • Intellectual curiosity and ability to identify trends and emerging patterns in areas such as acceptance, governance, and analytical methods of RWE in HEOR, HTA assessments, Market Access, and Healthcare delivery and payer requirements
  • Strong influencing skills and ability to navigate in a matrix organization, with proven ability to work cross-functionally, build coalitions and develop strong partnerships across functions
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interpret, discuss, and communicate project deliverables to cross-functional technical and non-technical audiences
  • Outstanding writing and presentation skills and ability to work under pressure, to take accountability for business challenges, think strategically and tackle complex problems
  • Ability to travel up to 30%
