For our Global Specialty Medical Affairs Team (GSMA) team located in the US (DSI) and in EU (DSE), we are looking for a:

 

Vice President Global Specialty Medical Affairs (m/f/x)

 

The position:

The purpose of the Lead of Global Specialty Medical Affairs (GSMA) is to take the leadership position to shape and implement the overall global medical affairs objectives for DS global specialty products. The candidate is expected to take the leading position to drive the development and implementation of global medical affairs strategies for specialty products, with special focus on global life-cycle phase specialty products and specialty/rare disease research/clinical development projects, as well as taking the key role in leading and shaping the Global Specialty Medical Affairs organization. The job is positioned within DSI or DSE and is based either in the US or Germany.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Specialty Medical Strategy: Take the responsibilities to oversee integrated global medical affairs plan for all global Specialty products. Ensure that these plans are meeting the customer needs and aligned with the product development strategies, global brand strategies and regional medical affairs plans, and are also developed in manageable budgets

  • Specific Specialty Life-cycle Products and Specialty/Rare Disease Clinical Development Projects: Lead, communicate and execute the development of integrated global medical affairs plan for specific Specialty products with high priorities. For Specialty/Rare Disease Clinical Development projects, collaborate with Specialty Global Development in advancing pipeline projects. The scope includes key global medical affairs activities such as:

    • KEE Engagement: Develop global KEE engagement strategies jointly with the global clinical development (for early stage projects) and regional MA and Global Marketing (for late-stage products)

    • Scientific Discussion: Enhance scientific discussion with the top experts by conducting global advisory boards and other discussion forum to gain insights from the external experts for the future medical/scientific strategy development

    • PAG (Patient Advocacy Group) Interaction: Lead interaction with PAG for specific rare disease projects to advance clinical development

    • Medical Leadership: Provide medical leadership towards the Global Brand Team by providing medical insights to the global brand strategy development and also secure medical accuracy for communications and materials that are relevant for global by conducting scientific review and approvals

    • Medical Communications and Publications: Drive publication strategy and planning and medical communication activities in collaboration with GMA Medical Communication members, Global Clinical Development, Global Marketing, Global HEOR and Regional Medical Affairs

    • LCM: Implement strategies to accelerate company sponsored global non-registration studies and investigator-initiated studies (IIS). Be a strategic partner for the team designing the Global Life- cycle strategies and global IIS strategies

    • Committees: Lead Specific GMAT (cross-regional MA committee). Core member of Global Specialty Business Leadership Team (GSBLT), Specialty Global Brand Teams (GBT), Specialty Global Project Teams (development, GPT). Ad-hoc member of GEMRAD and SMLT (Specialty Medicine Leadership Team)

  • Specific Specialty Research Themes (exploratory non-clinical stage): Collaborate with SMLT (Specialty Medicine Leadership Team) especially Specialty Global Development in advancing pipeline research themes. Communicate and interact with KEEs and PAGs to gain medical insights and provide medical affairs inputs to global R&D strategy. The scope includes key global medical affairs activities such as:

    • KEE Engagement: Develop global KEE engagement strategies jointly with SMLT especially Specialty Global Development and Global Specialty Marketing

    • Scientific Discussion: Enhance scientific discussion with the top experts by conducting global advisory boards and other discussion forum to gain insights from the external experts for the future medical/scientific strategy development

    • PAG (Patient Advocacy Group) Interaction: Lead interaction with PAG for specific disease to advance development of Specialty Research Themes

    • Committees: Core member of Global Specialty Business Leadership Team (GSBLT). Ad-hoc member of SMLT (Specialty Medicine Leadership Team)

  • Shaping the Global Specialty Medical Affairs organization: Take the leadership role in shaping the Global Specialty Medical Affairs organization optimal for Daiichi Sankyo Group jointly as part of entire Corporate Strategy Unit (CSU). The scope includes framing of the structure, capability needs and also filling the necessary gaps

Professional experience and personal skills:

  • MD is required

  • Expertise in clinical medicine

  • Experiences in the industry to lead the Global Medical Affairs team for cardiovascular and Specialty/Rare Disease products

  • Experiences to be involved in the global launch of cardiovascular & Specialty/ Rare Disease products from the planning phase

  • > 10 years hands on experiences in various fields of medical affairs, such as developing scientific strategies, leading scientific exchange meeting with top experts, medical trainings, publications, clinical trials and clinical operations

  • Leadership:

    • Need to have extra ordinary level of leadership to bring the different functions of people in different geographies together to achieve the common goal

    • Even though the framework, i.e., governance, role and responsibility, and process must be always respected, ideally has experienced complicated situations where true leadership was necessary to manage through such a situation successfully

    • While achieving the goals, must have demonstrated a high level of capability to motivate, coach, train and develop talents

  • Problem Solving:

    • Ability to work cross functionally

    • Ability to understand the regional differences and resolve problems with global interest as the primary focus

    • Must demonstrate high level of skills to solve complicated and abstract issues, not only from the logical perspective, but holistic perspective, i.e., emotion and politics in organization well considered, but not used as source for undesired compromise

  • Interpersonal Skills:

    • Very high communication skills, solution and results driven mindset

    • Patient and customer centric with a focus on understanding and meeting the needs of DS Specialty business

    • Must be highly skilful to manage people, for negotiation and convincing, leading by vision

    • Open-minded and able to understand regional differences yet focus on what is best globally

    • Able to collaborate well internally (master the matrix) and externally (with partners and key stake holders)

    • A good listener, tuned-in to cultural differences, able to manage conflict and facilitate consensus

    • Team leadership: can create over-time a high performing cross-functional team

    • Leadership: Highly motivated to drive the entire organizational capabilities to the next level for Specialty business

    • Collaboration: Highly collaborative with an ability to work with / influence cross-functional teams and senior leadership

    • Attitude: Patient and customer centric with a focus on understanding and meeting the needs of DS Specialty business

    • Be inclusive and embrace diversity

    • Capability to travel internationally (up to 30%)
