Purpose of the function
 

In this position you are the oncology scientific expert for your therapeutic area. You will support the clinical development of new indications and provide input to guide the medical and brand strategy in the pre-launch and launch phase. You will support the field medical roles in their daily tasks and develop them to set and achieve their goals. You work in close collaboration with the Head of Medical Affairs Oncology. 

 

Roles & Responsibilities
 

Maintain topnotch medical and scientific expert

  • Demonstrate in depth scientific knowledge on current and future products and has sound therapy area expertise, updated on the latest scientific information
  • Provide scientific and technical support for assigned products by delivering scientific presentations and providing relevant scientific and technical training for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist with the scientific review, development, approval, execution and communication of affiliate medical affairs sponsored or supported clinical research activities.
  • Acts as medical expert and leader in interactions with external stakeholders.

 

Internal and external collaboration (incl. Alliance Partners when appropriate)

  • Support R&D and clinical development team with product pipeline
  • Be involved in setting up local strategic plans for company products and contribute to the positioning of newly marketed products, in collaboration with the regulatory, market access, marketing and sales departments, as a member of the brand team.
  • Strong interaction with legal and compliance to ensure the non-promotional character of medical activities
  • Build and maintain professional and credible relationships with key opinion leaders

 

Develop medical affairs strategies for assigned products for product life cycle management in line with brand plan

  • Responsible for the delivery of strategic medical projects within budget in a timely manner
  • Drive educational initiatives (medical education, data, guidelines and value proposition)

 

Support to field medical roles

  • Provide scientific support to field medical roles by conducting internal trainings to keep them updated on clinical data and scientific insights to ensure the quality of their scientific discussions.
  • Support data prioritization and insights collection in line with local product strategy by reviewing and contributing to the used scientific materials
  • Develop MSLs professional skills to enhance their effectiveness and improve stakeholder relationship building
  • Support the MSL with the development and field implementation of a medical engagement strategy and plan in line with the overarching medical and brand plan.
  • Supervise the conduct of scientific projects with the objective to meet the strategic medical needs.

 

Professional experience & Education
 

  • Scientific background (MD, PhD, or other scientific degree) with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in Medical Affairs
  • In depth understanding of pharmaceutical industry, its business processes and health system we are operating in.
  • Expert knowledge in Oncology therapeutic area, preferably breast cancer
  • Must have an in-depth understanding of the Clinical Development process for Phase I-IV
  • Effective in cross-functional team work and project management
  • Ability to interact externally and internally to support the local business strategy

  • Leadership skills and proven ability to work in a cross-functional team environment
  • Strong analytical and synthesizing skills
  • Display strong customer orientation by having both medical / scientific and business driven mindset
  • Advanced communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work independent
  • Must possess good oral and written English communication skills
  • Fluency in Dutch and/or French required.
