Medical Affairs Specialty Medicine – Cardiovascular (m/f/x)
European Mid-Sized Countries (MSC)

The position:
The Head of Medical Affairs Specialty Medicine (m/f/x) leads the development and execution of the medical strategies for Daiichi-Sankyo’s cardiovascular portfolio in the EU mid-sized countries. Responsible for maximizing Daiichi Sankyo’s value proposition of in-line and pipeline products through development, management and delivery of medical and scientific activities. He/she is the key Daiichi Sankyo expert to external and internal entities on medical and scientific issues related to Daiichi Sankyo’s products within his/her area of responsibility and ensures that all medical affairs activities are planned and conducted in an excellent manner contributing to Daiichi Sankyo’s goals, and also is accountable and responsible for leading implementation and overseeing the execution of cardiovascular (CV) medical strategies.
Based in Belgium, this position holder’s primary role is to ensure implementation of regional CV medical affairs strategies to support the business plan and conduct all relevant medical affairs activities within the proper compliance law, ethical standards and company procedures.
Reporting:
- Reports to the Vice President European Mid-Sized Countries, dotted line reporting to the European Medical Affairs department in Munich
- The position holder will work together with the affiliates local Country managers and medical affairs manager in the MSC-countries to steer direction and to support the execution of the country medical strategies in the speciality medicine area
- The position holder will work closely together with the Head of Marketing EU Mid-sized countries and assure full alignment on the MSC business plans
Key responsibilities:
Leads and maintains the oversight of regional strategy and tactics of the European medical activities for each of the cardiovascular brands in the mid-sized countries - BE, NL, IE, PT, AT, CH, LUX, - for their respective therapeutic areas (i.e. NVAF, Cholesterol, Hypertension …)
- Plans coordinates and conducts medical and scientific activities according to all relevant rules, regulations and SOPs
- Manages indirectly the medical affairs organizations in the MSC-countries
- Integrates medical and scientific insight into regional and local strategies, plans and tactics – contributes to global strategies
- Collaborate effectively and efficiently across functions and provide medical-scientific input and judgment where appropriate
- Co-develops affiliate guidance specifically on Medical Affairs topics in close cooperation with cross-functional international & national teams and lead/monitor the implementation
- Drives management of KOL, professional societies and other key stakeholders
- Develop and contribute to support a network of key opinion leaders and key decision makers and assure appropriate follow-up in order to enhance visibility of the company and realize product acceptance and use; work with Key External Experts (KEE) in preparing an delivering presentations and scientific contributions upon request, e.g. accompanies to international and national congresses and scientific events
- Function as primary expert Medical Affairs contact for MSC-affiliates (and external experts/customers)
- Provide the appropriate scientific and medical affairs training to ensure high educational value
- Act as a scientific resource for the local teams to support the Key Accounts teams when requested
- Establishes a close, effective and efficient network of external and internal contacts to monitor and influence the development of medical-scientific opinions and beliefs as well as medical practice
- Present and represent the established and newly developed evidence as well as Daiichi Sankyo medical-scientific concepts and beliefs with external and internal audiences
- Develop and implement the Mid-Sized-Countries annual medical plan (as part of the overall business plan) in close collaboration with the Country managers/country teams/MSC staff functions (marketing/business intelligence/commercial excellence) and align with European medical plans
- In close collaboration with relevant internal stakeholders, actively contributes to planning and execution of interventional and non-interventional studies to fully exploit the medical value of Daiichi Sankyo’s products
Professional experience and personal skills:
- We are looking for someone who has a Medical Degree/ Scientific PhD, ideally additional training/experience and broad certification in Cardiology
- The successful candidate will have a minimum of 7 years’ experience within the pharmaceutical and/or clinical research industry, and minimum 3 years’ experience as Medical Lead, ideally in the cardiovascular area
- Candidate need to be able to communicate fluently in both written and spoken English and other European languages (French,Dutch,German, Portuguese,.)
- IT literacy (standard applications) is required
- Excellent communication & listening skills and highly interested in intercultural collaboration
- A pro-active Medical Affairs professional who understands Medical Affairs as a function which is predominantly focused on patient access to our products is required

- Capability to lead in a matrix environment is key
- Candidate has extensive experience in people management – strong personality with empathic skills, can lead by example
