Grade: 10

Hours: Hybrid role, both home and office based with occasional International and National travel required.

Purpose: Working in close collaboration with both UK, Global and European stakeholders, lead, champion and develop the market access, medical, commercial and marketing strategies in order to deliver successful product launches, and lifecycle management to deliver operating profit and revenue growth targets.

To be fully accountable for the Business Unit and to ensure adherence to applicable rules and regulations as well as Daiichi Sankyo standards and procedures.

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Leads, inspires, motivates and develops the UK Oncology team to optimally deliver against the teams’ business goals.
    • Sets standard expectations for the teams which is congruent with the company vision and reinforces these through regular inspiring communication and events.
    • Coaches, mentors and develops direct reports to ensure a strategic approach to employee performance management and development is maintained within the team in order to build and utilise our talent.  
    • Delegates effectively to deliver the required Company objectives to time and budget by offering developmental opportunities to make the best use of the people skills and capabilities available.
    • Ensures that high calibre individuals are recruited and retained for all roles within the team.
    • Works with internal stakeholders to design and implement performance incentive schemes that are in line with a high-performance culture.
    • Performance Manages as necessary to calibrate any performance issues.
  •  Develop a competitive strategy in line with Company plans. 
    • In collaboration with Daiichi Sanko Europe and Alliance partners, lead the Forecasting, Business Unit planning processes, maintaining effective communication to the full range of stakeholders.
    • Undertake business development activities including senior External Stakeholders such as NHS and Department of Health liaison to facilitate product penetration of both existing therapies and new therapy areas.
    • Ensure operational plans are created and monitored regularly with corrective action taken to ensure that quarterly/annual demand sales and operating profit targets are met.
    • Ensure that Business plans are championed and refined within the Sales and Omnichannel team through proactive engagement and feedback.
    • Ensure there is a robust go-to-market strategy which aligns to our strategy and is aligned with all stakeholders.
    • Leads the team to pioneer novel approaches aligned to customer channel preferences, appropriate to Brand and customer objectives that will give Daiichi Sankyo a competitive advantage and deliver our strategy to position DSUK as the NHS partner of choice.
  • Ensure that personal expertise in terms of markets, NHS understanding, clinical data and sales/marketing/medical best practice is sufficient to optimise performance and is shared within the team.
    • Creates and maintains a strong network of external contacts (NHS, Supplier and Industry) and utilises them to retain a strong understanding of the market and competitor environment at all times.
    • Takes personal accountability for maintaining a strong understanding of sales, marketing and medical and commercial best practice within the pharmaceuticals industry and beyond.
    • Fully understands and adheres to Company policies and external frameworks to which the Company must abide.
    • Takes actions to understand the approach taken to the marketplace within other Daiichi Sankyo affiliates to identify opportunities within the UK.
    • Develops a full understanding of the dynamics within the developing NHS and competitive landscape.
    • Is able to lead and present at Country reviews, Forecast meetings and Business case discussions.
  • A positive and constructive contributor to the Daiichi Sankyo UK’s Leadership Team.
    • Delivers well considered initiatives that are aligned to the needs of the business.
    • Uses meetings to share relevant information to help inform appropriate decision-making and escalate issues that need to be addressed.
    • Attendance at DSUK Leadership Committee meetings to discuss and debate Company issues openly and constructively, keeping the Customer at the heart of everything we do. 
    • Makes added value to Leadership Team’s policy-making and decision-making process through functional expertise combined with broader understanding of the business.

 
Personal Skills and Professional Experience:

Essential:

  • Masters degree level educated (or equivalent) in Business or a Natural Science.
  • Extensive experience of leading high performing teams of sales and marketing professionals (including second line managers) within a field-based pharmaceutical organisation.
  • Previous launch experience preferably into the Oncology therapy area with extensive UK Market Access knowledge.
  • Has an existing network of key external contacts (NHS, Supplier and Industry) and is able to utilise them for the benefit of the organisation.
  • Highly effective communication, networking and influencing capability both with senior internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience gained within the marketing function of a pharmaceutical sales organisation.
  • In-depth understanding of developments within the ‘current’ NHS structure, and decision makers and influencers, including a detailed awareness of current issues and challenges faced.
  • Able to demonstrate a high degree of resilience and emotional intelligence.
  • Proven record of innovation with positive outcomes.
  • Entrepreneurial mind-set with the willingness to “pitch in” in order to get things done.
  • ABPI Qualified

Desirable:

  • Proven knowledge of key customers and key influencers in the UK environment is highly desirable.
  • Marketing qualification (CIM).
