Director Data Management Resource Strategy, Vendor Management & Operational Excellence (m/f/x)
The position:
This position contributes to the vision, direction and strategy for Data Management line function globally. This position is also accountable for execution of the DM line function strategy with respect to globalization by establishing a highly performing data management group in the EU region and delivery of quality databases on global studies across multiple programs in support of corporate submission goals. This position is also responsible for the design of operational framework and deployment of a new Data Management operating model globally through internalization of data management services via a Functional Service Provider (FSP) model and/or Data Center at an offshore location. In this role, the individual will be accountable for central oversight of Data Management CRO partners and external vendors across the portfolio with respect to quality data and data management services delivery globally. This position also monitors trends in functional performance via quality, time, and cost indicators, and makes recommendations for improvements. Additionally, this position recommends and executes strategies in collaboration with Senior Management and global stakeholders that are optimized across business units, regions, and functional areas to ensure successful outcomes for projects and studies.
Roles and responsibilities:
Functional Expertise:
- Responsible for successful deployment of a new DM operating model globally through internalization of data management services via a Functional Service Provider (FSP) model (near-term ~1 yr) and Data Center at an offshore/low cost location (within 2-3 yrs)
- Accountable for consistency of execution of data management activities across programs by CRO partners, proactive identification of process deficiencies and implementation of process improvements at the coalition level to achieve operational efficiencies, responsible for redesign of key departmental operational metrics and deployment of the balanced scorecard to effectively measure and monitor operational performance of CRO partners, external vendors and the department.
- Serves as a Data Management expert to other line functions regionally/globally.
- Acts as coach/mentor at the department level and regional Data Management expert.
- Collaborates cross-functionally and contributes to interactions with Regulatory Authorities and other key external stakeholders (e.g., regulatory inspections, advisory committees and integration teams).
- Operational Efficiency / Continuous Improvement:
- Ensures Data Management has the appropriate skills, processes, and tools to achieve regional/global objectives.
- Influences Data Management processes and tools based on emerging trends, technology and best practices.
- Actively contributes to the review of best practices and standard operating procedures within the function.
- Maintains peer relationships within the industry with thought leaders in Data Management and related areas.
- Coordinates with key stakeholders regionally/globally to optimize cross-functional interfaces and collaboration.
- Leverages Data Management and related expertise to promote best practices across the Drug Development lifecycle.
Leadership, Direction, and Strategy:
- Contributes to the vision, direction and strategy for Data Management line function globally.
- Responsible for the design of operational framework and acquisition of additional data management and data operation capabilities in support via a Functional Service Provider (FSP) model and/or Data Center.
- Acts as a regional Data Management point of contact for Senior Management and high-level internal and external stakeholders.
- Makes recommendations and/or decisions that impact the function regionally and collaborates with relevant stakeholders to make recommendations/decisions that impact the function globally.
- Collaborates cross-functionally to resolve regional issues and collaborates globally to resolve global issues.
- Liaises with other functions to ensure effective cross-functional communication throughout drug development process to ensure corporate drug development targets are met.
- Proactively identifies and manages risks for the function regionally and supports functional risk identification/management efforts globally.
- Resolves and/or serves as a point of contact for escalations encountered at the department level.
- Provides the highest level of CRO/vendor oversight to ensure project plans are executed in accordance with departmental and cross-functional requirements (e.g., operational leadership teams).
Personal skills and professional experience:

Master degree in in life sciences or related field

At least 10 years of professional experience in data management and/or related work experience in a medical device or pharmaceutical/biotechnology company, or similar environment (e.g., CRO).

Excellent communication, collaboration and project planning skills

People management experiences is preferred

Fluent business English (oral and written)
