For our location in Pfaffenhofen/Ilm we are seeking highly qualified candidates to fill the position:
 

 

PhD in Formulation Technology: Process simulation (m/f/x)

- limited to 3 years-

 

The position:

 

Experimental and numerical investigation of different unit operations related to parenteral formulations with the aim to address the challenges that arise in the formulation development, in scale up, and in production.

Roles and responsibilities:

 

  • Learning and implementing state-of-the-art innovative experimental and simulation techniques related to various parenteral formulation unit operations such as liquid-liquid and liquid-solid mixing, filtration, lyophilization, etc.
  • Determination of phyisochemical properties of materials
  • Performing numerical simulations based on the fundamentals to address the challenge(s) related to one or several parenteral formulation unit operations
  • Conducting experiments on lab-scale and pilot-scale machines as well as custom designed instruments
  • In depth results evaluation with statistical tools, and finding the cause(s) that help(s) in addressing the challenge(s)
  • Writing reports, research articles, publications, presenting results internally, externally in national and international scientific platforms

 

Personal skills and professional experience:

 

  • Preferably a Master degree in Pharmaceutical Technology/Engineering, Chemical or Biochemical Engineering, Food Technology, or related study programs
  • Strong interest in simulation methods such as CFD, CFD-DEM to solve for multiphase systems
  • Knowledge in statistical tools (e.g. JMP) for design of experiments, data evaluation
  • Ideally some theoretical and/or practical knowledge of parenteral formulation development
  • Good communication skills in English and German
  • High motivation to do fundamental research on pharmaceutical formulation development
  • Reliable, responsible, independent personality, and especially willing to work in an international team
